Laura Canal

Laura Canal Biography

Born in 1993 in Barcelona, Spain. Laura Canal is a self-taught abstract painter. Her paintings use a variety of acrylic paint colours and embedded materials that create unusual compositions and textures.

Her artwork consists of constantly exploring herself and how she experiences the world. Driven by spontaneous and intuitive energy, her work defies easy characterisation as she avoids foreseeing anything, remaining devoted to embracing the lived experience. Observers can witness an intriguing alliance between materials, strokes, and movement. For Laura Canal, each artwork represents a dialogue between consciousness and the unconscious, chaos and clarity, deriving meaning solely from the viewer’s free interpretation.

Her collection “Blue Leap” expresses the process of open wound healing in the sea. It symbolises healing and rebirth. Each piece has been created with acrylic paint, diluted washes and has blended earth, water, and fire.

In her own words, “Painting is an act of intimacy, vulnerability, and strength to be able to face your emotions. To let them run, take you, and leave you. To dissolve yourself with the canvas. To reflect, to transform. To open the door to your feelings, feeling the feelings. Exploring oneself.”
