Andrés Garcia: A Playful Exploration of Light and Shadow

The stainless steel sculptures by Andrés Garcia, also known as Andrex, depicts a playful and fragmented figuration. Faces are constructed from a series of polished and curved metal pieces that catch the light and create a sense of movement and dynamism.

Surface and Light

The most striking aspect is the way Andrex uses the reflective surface of the stainless steel. The polished metal catches the light and creates a dazzling display of highlights and shadows. The fragmented nature of the face means that light reflects off different sections at different angles, creating a sense of movement across the surface of the sculpture. For example, the area around the left eye catches the light brightly, while the right eye is cast in shadow. This play of light and shadow animates the face and makes it seem to shimmer and change as the viewer moves around it.

Form and Fragmentation

The faces are broken down into a series of abstract shapes that suggest the features of faces – two circles for eyes, and a long rectangle for the nose. This fragmentation adds to the playful and dynamic quality of the sculpture. It forces the viewer to engage with the work in an active way, to mentally piece together the fragments to form a coherent image.

Andrés Garcia’s stainless steel sculptures are a successful exploration of light, shadow, and form. The fragmented metal pieces catch the light and create a dynamic interplay of highlights and shadows. The fragmentation of the facea adds a playful quality to the work and encourages the viewer to engage with it in an active way. The sculptures showcase Andrex’s skill as a sculptor and his ability to use industrial materials to create something beautiful and unique.

Painter, illustrator, sculptor, Andrés García, artistically known as Andrex, has art in his blood. He was born in Molina de Segura (Murcia), after several failed attempts to study Fine Arts, he ends up studying Business Administration. He works in the family business, dedicated to the sale of industrial supplies.

A self-taught illustrator since childhood, he studied painters such as Picasso, Modigliani and Gustav Klimt, who marked the style of many of his works.

Today, with more than 30 years dedicated to painting and after a complicated career, due to limited free time, Andrex considers himself indefatigable, and he won’t leave this world without leaving a good mark.

He held some exhibitions in Elche and Murcia. Today social networks are his showcase to make his sales.

Another facet to highlight in him is sculpture, in his business is where he gets to know stainless steel and the possibilities it presents, making each creation something unique.

Trying to steal time from sleep, he draws, paints and sculpts great works.

He claims to be a fighter and faces assignments as challenges, resulting in works that exude feeling and a lot of work.
