Iryna Somyk-Ponomarenko

born in 1974 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

The Ukrainian artist, scientist, and conservator of easel painting, Senior Lecturer at the department of technique and restoration of artworks of  National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, Ukraine

Investigation of various artistic techniques in teaching art and restoration practice, including painting techniques of old masters, gives me the opportunity to freely use artistic materials and techniques on the creative goal I set. One of my favorites is a classic technique of three-stage oil painting. It is a universal method for reproduction of material reality on canvas, the exquisite beauty of which I can see and through which I can perceive the world. This technique is a tool for me with which, by synthesizing creative and analytical approaches, I can convey personal experiences embodied in realistic forms.

Creating a generalized symbolic compositional solution with the help of the beauty of material forms, passing through conditional political and temporal boundaries, can get feedback from different viewers. This approach gives the ability to reproduce or interpret a memory by turning it into reality, recreate fleeting feelings, and provokes dreams and new fantasies. The surrounding reality is constantly changing, by hiding in its nature our attitude to it, which changes with us over time.  And only the beauty of painting remains infinitely constant.
