A young girl is revealed at a moment of quiet reverie, a sort of attentive thoughtfulness that is reflected in the rural setting dominated by shadows. A subliminal disquiet is mirrored by the cotton clouds. Glimpses of serene, clear-blue sky are complemented by unexpected lilac and ochre highlights of the girl’s flaky hair.

Like most of my figurative work, it is not strictly a portrait – but my models, even though fictional, are not strangers to me. They are all inspired by people: family members, characters from literature and film and even accidental passers-by on the street, who get my attention though their personal style, body language and unassuming charisma.
